Will every USB-C dock work with every USB-C laptop?

No. Video output, charging and multiple-display support depend on the host port, dock and operating system. Use the exact dock’s compatibility list and your computer’s specifications together.

Should you buy more ports or a new computer?

If your applications run well and you only lack connections, investigate a compatible dock first. If the processor, memory or storage is the problem, a dock will not replace those computer resources.
